Electrolysis is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association for safety and permanency. Since its discovery in 1875, major advances have been made and the process of electrolysis has been perfected. During an electrolysis treatment each individual hair is treated by the insertion of a tiny sterile probe into the hair follicle, followed by a spit second impulse of energy down to the hair root. The hair detaches from the follicle and is lifted out by the electrologist. This procedure is repeated until the desired area is free of hair.

Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal system for those with red, blond, gray or white hair at this time. Those with brown or black hair have the option of LASER HAIR REMOVAL or ELECTROLYSIS.

The staff at Advanced Electrology & Laser Center are Registered Nurses and Registered Electrologists who are trained to take a thorough history during consultation, discussing all relevant facts and conditions with the client. Taking all factors into consideration, we recommend the best treatment plan for you resulting in permanent results.

Electrolysis Questions & Answers

What causes hair growth?

The number one cause of excessive hair growth is heredity and ethnic background. Superfluous or excessive hair growth is often a result of normal biological changes that women undergo throughout life, such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause and old age. These are the main life changes that can effect hormone fluctuations in the body. Any one of these changes may cause an increase in hair growth in areas that never had hair before, or cause a small to moderate problem area to worsen. Other causes of hair growth can be associated with certain medications, stress and obesity. More seriously, it the cause can be an abnormality in the endocrine system such as irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian disorders; such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and thyroid abnormalities.

Why do temporary hair removal methods such as waxing and tweezing stimulate hair growth?

Waxing, tweezing and depilatory creams are amongst the top culprits for stimulating hair growth. When a hair root is pulled at or tugged at to remove it, a blood supply rushes to the area nourishing the hair follicle. When this process is done regularly the result is growth of very coarse deep rooted hairs. Most clients are surprised to learn that years of waxing and/or tweezing have played a role in making the hair growth worse.

Why Electrolysis versus Laser Hair Removal?

Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method available at this time for those with red, blond, white or gray hairs. It is also the best choice for those with sparse or very fine vellus hair.

How long does electrolysis take?

Electrolysis is a series of treatments. It is a process of weakening the hair follicle with repeated treatment. As the follicle weakens, the hair takes longer to grow and becomes thinner and finer. Averagely, clients start treatments every two weeks. Completion time varies with each client depending on the size of the area being treated, coarseness of the hair and if temporary hair removal methods were used in the past.
