The lines that appear between your brows (glabellar), around the eyes
(crow's feet), on the forehead and around the mouth actually result from
muscle movement and the passage of time. The wrinkles are caused from
a combination of factors: aging, stress, sun, genetics, hormone loss,
collagen depletion and the environment.
What is BOTOX®?
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium
Botulinum bacteria, which reduces activity of the muscle. It may sound
dangerous, but it is very, very safe. Botox ® is a simple, nonsurgical
treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines,
forehead creases and crow's feet.
Is BOTOX® FDA approved?
Botox® Cosmetic was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
in 2002.
There have been no known allergies to Botox®.
How does BOTOX® work?
One 10 minute treatment- a few tiny injections- and within day's there
is a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown and other facial
lines. Botox® has a paralyzing or freezing effect on the muscle which
lasts about 4 months. Results may vary.
Are there any side effects to a BOTOX
® Cosmetic treatment?
Side effects of Botox are rare and include bruising at the injection site,
headache for 1-2 hours after treatment and eye droop (very rare) can occur.
How do I prepare for my BOTOX treatment?
Botox requires no pretesting, but you should take a few precautions before
being treated. Avoid using Aspirin, Non Steroidal Anti inflammatory medication
(NSAIDS), St John's Wart or high doses of Vitamin E, because these may
increase bleeding at injection site.
Are there any restrictions following
a BOTOX treatment?
Patients are instructed to be upright for 4 hours after their Botox injection.
What other conditions can be treated
with BOTOX®?
Botox can be used in the treatment of migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis
(severe underarm sweating).
